  • Pipe cement: Use ABS cement for the ABS version or PVC primer + PVC cement for the PVC version.
What's different from the Universal Bond Flange Kit?

Outlet Type:

  • Universal Bond Flange Kit connects to a 2" waste pipe or adapts to a 3-piece clamping drain with the included adapter.
  • Traditional Bond Flange Kit connects directly to a 2" waste pipe (not compatible with the clamping adapter).

Shower Pan Type:

  • Universal Kit: best for mortar (drypack) pans.
  • Traditional Kit: drops into most preformed foam trays.

Grate Compatibility:

  • Universal Kit works with ANY FloFX grate (incl. Tile-in and Elite Grate Carrier).

From a beginner’s perspective.

I would definitely categorize myself as a beginner in the custom shower stall game but really liked the Schulter concept and seeing the new FloFX videos it made sense to go with your product, once I determined the mating material and ordered it, it came quickly and installed just like the video. I’m at the tile phase as soon as I perform the leak check of the Schulter tray. Top quality product indeed.

Flofx advertises their beautiful tile-in drain

Flofx advertises their beautiful tile-in drain option, but doesn’t mention that is is not an option for both drains. Only the universal. So when your all done and ready to buy your tile in grate, your stuck with very few options and it’s very disappointing. :(

Saved me time and money

Remodeling from a fiberglass shower surround to tile with a Kerdi pre-sloped shower pan. I had ordered a Kerdi 2” ABS drain assembly.
The P trap was set way too high in my concrete slab, and I had the straight ABS pipe 2” above the floor. Even if I cut the pipe the Kerdi drain was way too high, and I didn’t have enough vertical pipe to cut to make it fit.
Slab wasn’t level so used self leveler to gain 3/8” of height, still not enough. While searching online for a solution I stumbled on the Flo FX drain solution. Perfectly shorter height! Used an internal pipe cutter to end up with 1” of straight pipe, and had the correct height.
It’s less expensive and better built than the Kerdi drain solution. Good stuff!

How do I know whether to choose ABS or PVC?

It's best to stick with the same material that's already in use to ensure compatibility. Mixing materials can be done with the right transition fittings, but it's generally simpler to use the same type throughout.

How will the weep channels work if instructions call for adjustment ring to be set in thinset mortal filling the weep channels?

J.J.

The tile is set directly to the waterproof membrane using the same thinset that is used to set the adjustment ring. Any water that can migrate through the thinset under the tile will migrate better through the weep channels as it's a thicker section of material. Overall water migration in a sealed system is very low compared to a traditional water in, water out system that requires a 1.5" thick mud bed to constantly weep water.

Yes, the FFX bond flange is designed with a woven fabric bonding surface that is compatible with a wide range of bonded, surface applied waterproofing membranes, including the Laticrete Hydro Ban shower pan. This encompasses paint-on, liquid applied membranes, and thinset mortar applied sheet membranes. For best results and assurance, we always recommend conducting a 24-hour flood test after application.
