What model do i need to span 4 feet 1 inch? Is this just a frame for seat material to mount to?

TileTools

For a 4 ft 1 in span (49"), you need the Adjustable Bench model: BB-ADJR (ADJR) — it’s adjustable up to 63", so it will cover 49" with room to spare.

Support requirement at 49"

Because 49" is beyond 36", the ADJR requires additional supports.

Wall-to-wall installation (supported on both ends):
One (1) BT-17S centered in the span OR two (2) Invisabolt supports.

If your install is open-ended or not fully supported at both ends, the support requirements increase (per the chart), but the key point is: anything over 36" needs supports.

Is it “just a frame” for the seat material?

Yes — think of the ADJR as the structural bench frame that you install over an approved tile backing system (pre-tile or post-tile). It provides the bench shape and load support, and then you finish it with your tile assembly (backing/tile finish as required by the system).

It’s also designed so you can mount it:

directly to the tile substrate (preferred/ultimate method), or

And wood blocking is NOT required unless you’re using Invisabolt mounting supports.
