MLT Space & Break Tile Leveling System – 1/16" & 1/8" Clips

The MLT Space & Break Clip System brings the reliability of MLT’s proven technology into a simple wedge-based format. Unlike other clip and wedge systems, Space & Break is engineered for high tension, effortless removal, and is designed and engineered to reliably space and break clean all the time. With only one surface touching the tile, there’s less chance of scratching, and the innovative break design ensures no plastic remains stuck between tiles.

Available in 1/16" and 1/8" spacing and packaged in 450-piece bags, Space & Break is ideal for installers who prefer wedge-style leveling without a tensioning tool, while still demanding professional-grade flatness and precision.

My new favorite

I'm really a fan of these clips, they're easy to use, they hold securely and the design makes it impossible for them to snap improperly and leave plastic in the joint. Even in a mud filled joint they'll remove cleanly. I've even used them on fragile soft-bodied tile without an issue.

Will these work for unguaged 12"x12" marble tile where some tiles are thicker than others?

The MLT Space & Break system can be used with stone tile, including 12" x 12" marble, but it is best suited for tiles with consistent thickness. Because ungauged marble can vary from tile to tile, the system may help reduce lippage, but it will not fully compensate for significant thickness differences.

For best results, the installer should adjust the mortar bed and back-butter individual tiles as needed to bring the surface into plane. If the marble varies noticeably in thickness, extra care during installation is required, and the leveling clips should be used as an aid rather than the primary method of correction.

We also recommend testing on a spare piece first, especially with polished or softer marble, to confirm the system performs well with the specific material.
